Gutters

Gutter systems

Installation and repair of gutter systems in durable materials, sized for the roof that is actually feeding them rather than for whatever was there before.

Chapter 01

Texas rain does not arrive gently

It arrives all at once. A gutter run that copes perfectly with ordinary rain will simply give up in a serious San Antonio downpour and send the water over the front edge, down the fascia, and into the ground right next to the foundation.

That is the failure worth designing against, and it is a sizing question rather than a maintenance one. A large roof plane feeding a small gutter run will overflow every heavy storm no matter how clean it is.

So the first thing we look at is not the gutter. It is the area of roof draining into it.

What a failing gutter costs you

The gutter itself is the cheapest thing in the chain. What it protects is the fascia behind it, the soffit, and the ground next to your foundation.

Water running down a fascia board rots it, and rotten fascia is a carpentry job with a roof edge sitting on top of it. Water dumping repeatedly next to a foundation is a considerably more expensive conversation.

None of that happens suddenly. It happens over a few seasons of overflow that looked like nothing much at the time.

Chapter 03

Doing the eave once

The eave is where the roof edge, the drip edge, the fascia and the gutter all meet, and it is much easier to get right as one detail than as four separate visits by different trades.

Which is why we fit gutters as part of roofing work wherever we can. If the roof is coming off anyway, the edge detail is already exposed and the drip edge is going back on regardless.

If your roof is fine and only the gutters need attention, we will do that on its own too.

Keeping them working

Clearing gutters is a seasonal job rather than a once a decade one, and it is the single cheapest thing a homeowner can do for their roof edge.

When we are up there for anything else, we will tell you what the gutters look like. If they are clear and correctly sized, that is what we will say.

Fitted alongside roof work so the eave detail is done once, properly.
